From MVP to production: building a first product that survives its first customers

Moving from MVP to production is the work of turning a prototype that won a pilot into a product that enterprise customers will buy, run and renew: authentication and roles, tenant isolation, an audit trail, monitoring, backups, a release process, and a codebase a second engineer can change. Should we rebuild or fix the prototype?
It depends on what the prototype got right. Discovery answers it with evidence: what can be kept, what must go, and what each route costs. Rebuilds are more common than founders expect and cheaper than they fear when the product is well understood.
How do we avoid over-building?
By sizing the architecture for the next eighteen months and writing the cost model down. The foundations that cannot be added later, tenant isolation, audit and identity, go in first; everything else is added when a customer needs it.
What does it cost?
Delivery is from £480 per engineer per day on a monthly retainer, or a fixed price per phase where the scope is defined. Discovery is from £4,000 fixed. The figure for your product comes with the written proposal within two working days of a scoping call.
Who owns the code?
You do, from the first commit. Repositories, cloud accounts and domains are created in your name, so if you hire a team or change supplier there is nothing to transfer.
Can you work alongside our engineers?
Yes. The team can be embedded with yours, on your tools and in your stand-ups, or run in-house at Hexploits with you joining the fortnightly demo. You can switch between the two on a month’s notice.
