How often should restores be tested?
At least quarterly, and after significant changes. A backup that has never been restored is an assumption.
Do we need a second region?
It depends on the recovery time objective and what an hour of downtime costs. Many businesses need fast restore, not live failover, and the analysis shows which.
What about ransomware?
Immutable backups with separate credentials, retention that outlasts a slow attack, and a rebuild-from-code path for infrastructure.
